The " Khan" Daan

They all arrived the silver screen one after the other, almost in series. Aamir with QSQT, Salman with Maine Pyar KIya and Shahrukh with Deewana. The order is not important, the point that I am trying to make, and the topic of this blog, is the super duper stardom that these three Khans have commanded in Hindi Film Industry aka Bollywood, all three of them, more or less equally. In spite of the perennial fight among their fans over who is the best and who is the worst, what is pertinent to note is all three of them, in their own, are the best, and on the top, together.

Recently, I went through two blogs, one each defending Shahrukh and Salman. Each proclaimed how one is the best and other the worst. What I failed to understand is “Do these superstars need to be defended at all” They both, and Aamir too, have been in the industry for over 20 years now and have healthy body of work. None of them need any kind of certificate from any of us. And I am not trying to certify either, just appreciating their consistent success at their trade.

Let’s start with Salman, for he is my favorite. He shown potential in Biwi Ho to Aisi and won hearts in Maine Pyar Kiya. The later remains as one of the best and simplest love stories ever depicted. He followed it up with another big Hit in Sanam Bewafa. While some of his movies after Sanam Bewafa such as Baaghi, Patthar ke phool where not mega hits, he showed his acting prowess. But carefree attitude is trademark of Salman Khan. This has been the only constant thing in his ever changing career. Due to which he didn’t take his movie choices seriously. Probably this is the reason that he followed big hits with an array of flops. What is remarable is that after each array of flops, he rebounded like none else could. Saajan, Hum Aapke Hain kaun, Tere Naam, Partner, Wanted are just some examples to prove this. Its just amazing how he has been sustaining this super stardom while being this easygoing, without working with the choicest banners and featuring in numerous duds for friends and family.

But in last few years, he has seemed to have become more serious to his trade and come to age. I personally believe that this came with his TV show “ Dus Ka Dum” . He was a complete revelation and his real personality came to the fore. From there on he has become Midas. He brought the audience back to the single screen with potboilers like Wanted, Dabangg, Ready and Bodyguard. Its very easy for a critic to blast his movies off citing them as nonsense masala. I dare challenge them to make such nonsense masala and generate even 10% of revenue that Salman`s movies do. Just for records, I would like to depict some of the movies which give us an idea of his versatility as an actor. I am using my liberty as a salman khan fan for this classification.

Romantic – Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
Family – Hum Aapke Hain Kaun,
Offbeat – Fir Milenge, Tere Naam, Khamoshi
Comedy -  Partner, Judwaa, Mujhse Shadi Karogi
Action – Karan Arjun, Body guard, Wanted
Cult – Andaj Apna Apna, Dabangg,
TV Shows – Dus Ka Dum, Bigg Boss

Will Continue with Aamir and Shahrukh in my next 2 blogs….
